New Kentucky Criminal Laws - House Bill 463 and House Bill 54

Most provisions of House Bill 54 went into effect on July 12, 2012, amending more of Kentucky's criminal laws and and supplementing House Bill 463. Most provisions of KY House Bill 463 went into effect on June 8, 2011, marking a historic reform to Kentucky’s criminal code and drug laws. The new laws are aimed at reducing jail and prison populations in favor of community based rehabilitation. There are major changes to pretrial procedures and bond requirements. There are also significant changes to the penalties for felony and misdemeanor drug offenses.
